Situation Report #8

Update from Dr. Yen (Dads oncologist in town who is working with the Stanford doctors):

They were trying to up the steroid dosage in hopes that his platelet count would increase along with the platelet transfusions. This is not working, his platelets were down to 4,000 last night. Instead of giving him any more platelet transfusions they will be giving him a different type of medicine to try to coax those platelets up!!

IVIG - READ MORE ABOUT IVIG HERE

Apparently this hemoglobin that is derived from over 1,000 donors is given via drip doses for five days and then we will see his response. Dad is scheduled tomorrow for a bone marrow biopsy which he needs to move forward with the cancer treatments. This biopsy can be risky, since his platelets are so low there is a chance of bleeding. The cancer treatments can not be started until we can get those platelets UP!

Everyone keep the prayer going for platelets!!

  1. Love you and praying for your Dad and whole family, but especially your Dad and you. Take care of yourself (and your little peanut) while you are busy taking care of everyone around you, ok? I know that is a tall order, because you are not the kind of person to slow down and think about yourself when others need you. So, please let us know what we can do to help. Besides the prayers, what practical stuff can we do? Meals? Babysitting? Dog walking? You Lesnowiczes sure are tough cookies. Suck it cancer, and bring on the platelets!

  2. PS -- if it is meals that would help I promise to make something healthy -- I do have a few things besides hamburger casserole in my repertoire!

  7. Ed, my friend, Bobbie and I are not only praying but sending you the most positive thought energy we can to help you rebuild the immune system. God works in mysterious ways and this tough life passage is truly the fight of your life. Mary and the family are in our prayers too since caretakers also need them. We have a room at home for her should she need it. Love to you and a big abrazo. Francisco

  8. We missed you at Poker last night but your presence was felt with constant reminders of Ed's witticisms of "Navy Nurses", "hooks" and "aprons" Hope the new the super powered bag of hemoglobin is the winning formula!

  9. "O most holy apostle, Saint Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, and of things almost despaired of. Pray for Ed, who feels so miserable. Make use, we implore thee, of that particular privilege accorded to thee, to bring visible and speedy help where help was almost despaired of. Come to his assistance in this great need, that he may receive the consolation and succor of Heaven in all his necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly in regaining his good health so that he may praise God with thee and all the elect throughout eternity. We promise thee, O blessed Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor thee as our special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to thee.
    Amen."
Francisco and Bobbie and all the family and friends.

  10. Hey Sir,

You are too tough of an old "War Dog" to let this get you down. Victoria and I send our love and prayers for you and your family. If you need anything, just let me know.

  15. All that comes to mind right now is that scene from Finding Nemo, "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming" I envision those platelets like the fish in the net and they are breaking free to swim into your body.
