Sit Rep #20

Well, here is the deal.  I say deal because plan sounds like we know it will all roll out a certain way.  When you get dealt cards, you play them the best you can.

Yes, my husband has a file of photos for his online poker intimidation. **eyeroll**

FAST EDDIE IS ONCE AGAIN CANCER FREE!

This time they are jumping straight into the stem cell transplant with his sisters stem cells.  Doctors said this was the best PET Scan they have seen for him.  Over the last few months they have been changing his Kimo to find the right mix.  This last one, worked. As all of you have been following along this aggressive cancer is only hiding.  We PLAN on chasing it out of the bushes.  PULL!

"Bird Shooting" - Okay I felt bad about any other bird getting a shot.

What next?

My aunt will be traveling up from southern California for a round of NEUPOGEN SHOTS and a STEM CELL HARVEST.  At that same time dad will be given the highest dose of Kimo yet.  ALL his immunities will be taken away.  They actually sing you Happy Birthday because ALL of your cells are new.  Risky? YEP.  Our only chance to beat this thing? YEP.  This is all set to start on the 19th of April.

Since dad is using a donors stem cells the hospital stay and recovery are much harder.  They have to do a daily test that checks whether or not his sisters immunities are taking over.  Which is what we want.  At the 90 day point they do another PET Scan to see if the cancer is still in remission.  They will have to be up at Stanford until roughly the 8th of August.  My dads blood type and DNA will change to match his sisters.  CRAZY RIGHT!  We will keep you updated more often in the coming weeks.

We heard some interesting news up at Stanford yesterday during the preliminaries.  A General also had AITL, the SAME chemo worked on him and he had a stem cell transplant last year.  Last year?  He is still around and cancer free one year later!  Hope I tell ya.  It feels good.  The only thing they have ever told us that MIGHT be linked to AITL is being in Vietnam.  Seems that one link pops up quite a bit.  We wonder if that General was in Vietnam too.

Okay Folks.  This is it.  We are going BACK to Disneyland in one week.  Dad will be hanging on your prayers and comments.  I will be manning the blog station.

  6. Analicia, your update is fantastic as usual. I love the Larry Bird reverence; he is a champion just like your dad. I believe he will come out of this victorious as well.

Uncle Ed, good to see you putting up a great fight (not that I had any doubt). I’ll be looking forward to seeing you this summer and hearing a story or two.

Aunt Elmira take care of yourself, I know how tuff these days are. I would love to visit you when you have time. I’ll give you a call next month and see how things are going.

I love you all, Lionel, Penny and family.

  16. Thanks for the posts Analicia. Do youse have skype capability?? We sure think about you all. At the mention of Vietnam some of us kind of say a silent prayer knowing there are still serious bugs running around among us.... It also reminds me that some of my most serious talks with the MAN were during that period! I have considered talking to God about your situation my friends but don't want to bend the good he is doing for you the wrong way...

You are in our thoughts every day. 'ON ON' as the Brits say.

  17. Thank you for the update...That is so exciting that they have this window of opportunity to hit the enemy hard!!! Be a patient, patient...and follow all the instructions...having no immune system is no joke!! I remember being super paranoid around my brother right after his stem cell transplant...I am happy to report a year later he looks great...and yes is cancer free.

Stay in the fight...you are in my thoughts.

So thankful to read this great update. Thank you Analicia. We can all specifically pray for your Dads immune system to have Gods hedge of protection all around him, 24/7...however long it takes. Just like a bug zapper!!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTT!!!
YOU are going to beat this Uncle Ed!!!! You've always shown the best attitude, calm composure and discipline, as long as I have known you. That and a whole lot more is what makes you so special. People take note of these qualities and the smart ones learn from your example. Prayer warriors have your back. Keep going forward-----> ----> ---->
Our love and daily prayers are with you, Auntie and family.

This sounds like a good plan, especially as it worked for that general. Looks like a long time in Stanford, but worth it if they can chase this thing away. Good luck, and please keep letting us all know what's happening ... these sitreps are really great!
